Spring 2018-19 Instrumental Auditions

Placement auditions for the spring semester will be held during the first week of classes. All auditions will take place in the Recital Hall except where noted.

Schedule (Revised January 1, 2019)

Placement auditions for the Fall semester for Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, and Symphony Orchestra will be held during the first week of classes. Note that some auditions will occur the weekend before classes begin. All auditions will take place in the Glidden Recital Hall except where noted. Jazz ensemble auditions are held separately.

Audition schedule signups will be posted about two days before auditions begin, outside of Glidden Room 497. Results will be posted by either Wednesday noon (for Symphonic Band/Wind Symphony) or Thursday noon (for Orchestra).

Winds and percussion: All students wishing to audition for Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, or Symphony Orchestra should prepare the following excerpts. There is no audition required to participate in University Band (MUS 2512/5512); students who are interested in University Band should attend the first rehearsal on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in Glidden 101.

Strings: NOTE: FOR SPRING 2018-19, THERE WILL BE NO STRING REAUDITIONS. NEW STUDENTS SHOULD EITHER CONTACT PROF. HUANG DIRECTLY OR ATTEND THE FIRST CLASS. Music majors auditioning for Symphony Orchestra should prepare the following excerpts. Nonmajors auditioning for Symphony Orchestra or Campus Orchestra may alternatively choose to perform a short selection of their choice, and/or scales. Students who wish to only be considered for Campus Orchestra may attend its first rehearsal, Tuesdays 7-9pm in Glidden 494.

Sunday, January 13 (RECITAL HALL)

  • 1-3 pm Flute/piccolo

  • 3-4 pm Bassoon (no auditions will be held for Spring 2019)

  • 4-5 pm Oboe/English horn

  • 6-8 pm Trombone

  • 8-10 pm Saxophone

Monday, January 14 (RECITAL HALL EXCEPT WHERE MARKED)

  • 11.40-12.50 Horn Glidden 472

  • 4-6 pm Clarinet

  • 8-9 pm Tuba

  • 9-10 pm Euphonium

Tuesday, January 15 (note day - not date - correction) (SEE EACH INSTRUMENT FOR LOCATION)

  • 8-10 pm Percussion  6th floor percussion studio

Wednesday, January 16 (please note this schedule change)

  • 7-9 pm Trumpet Recital Hall

Transposed parts should be played in the correct keys unless otherwise instructed. Prepare first parts (upper divisi) unless otherwise indicated.
